The ad is perfect for their target audience. December 4, 2019 Reply Holy Ravioli Peloton is a stupid concept, why would you need to spend a shit ton of money on an overpriced bike when you can just use a regular bike? December 4, 2019 Reply Mark Palmer So a woman enters a competition…sees that it's for single, never been married, Childless women…acknowledges that she read the competition rules, admits to lying by knowingly ticking the box that asks if she has any children…and is now sueing because she thinks it's discrimination. She was disqualified because she knowingly lied on the application form.Is the competition sexist? Yes.Do I think the competition is ridiculous? Yes.Do I think that these competitions are stupid, and promote body image issues? Yes.Do I think that they should update their rules? Possibly…it's totally up to the organisers.Do I think that there should be equivalent competitions for women that meet the criteria? Yes, and they already exist.Do I think that it's OK to knowingly lie on an application form of any kind? No…and because the prize includes money, it's fraud. All competitions have rules in place. Some make sense, others don't. But that's their rules. If you don't like their rules, or don't meet the criteria…nobody is forcing you to enter the competition. That's totally your decision.Should I enter my cat into CRUFTS? (a completion for pure bred show dogs) and lie on the application form, stating that my cat is a lesser known rare breed of meowing Tibetan purr hound? It's ok, because once I get thrown out, I can always cry, complain and sue the organisers. This ain't news and I wish people would stop acting like it is.The one plus side is that whilst Phil talks about it, it's presented as a kind of dumb, less serious story and not sensationalised to Kingdom come like when the MSM cover this shit. December 5, 2019 Reply Fidasaind To anyone that wants to try indoor riding… A dedicated bike trainer (preferably a smart trainer since they have lots of features that improve training and immersion). And an app to help with guided workouts and/or distracting you (my preference is Zwift due to it essentially being an MMO with people to ride/race with). A smart trainer is still spendy. But Zwift, TrainerRoad, etc is cheaper. Plus… you can take that bike off of the trainer and ride it outside when the weather is nice. Both my wife and I have used Wahoo Kickr Snap trainers for years to help us get some activity in during work week or when weather is bad (generally summer here in Phoenix though sometimes rains here do flood the trails and roads in fall and winter so even sometimes then). When I crashed outside on my road bike about 2 years ago I broke my arm. After the road rash healed enough enough that I could ride (I was going about 35mph so I lost lots of skin and needed 3 or 4 weeks before my knee bent properly) but before my arm healed I was able to ride on the trainer. When I tried going outside again after that crash I realized it had given me some pretty nasty anxiety about riding at high speed that only finally got under control this fall. It meant I could continue to get workouts in despite having stupid irrational fears that kept me from riding hard enough to train outside (12-15mph is not really going to help someone that was previously riding 4000-6000 miles per year at 18-22mph). I am a huge fan of indoor riding. But just know that Peloton is FAR from the only choice. Plus the company has done some things to earn my annoyance (DMCA'ing a YouTuber over a podcast he was doing called "Digital Peloton News" which was focused on indoor riding… for those that don't know peloton is a phrase often used in racing for the main group in the race) plus while they were doing things like that… they had been using music that they did not have rights to. Not to mention the memes that Phil mentioned about their advertising and pictures of their bikes in expensive houses. Meanwhile trainer riders usually call our indoor training space "the pain cave". Often a guest room or a corner of a living room with a sweat mat, trainer, bike, fan, and something to run your app of choice on. Give me the gamification that Zwift adds to indoor riding. A friend of mine loves Trainer Road and Sufferfest on days he needs to do indoor riding. I've seen others like other apps. Heck you can simply just throw the bike on a basic fluid trainer and ride hard as you can for 15, 30, 60, whatever minutes and leave it at that on days where you cannot get outside.
