June 12, 2019 Reply Aurabinda Ghosh Best anime out there till date❤️❤️ June 13, 2019 Reply jack and daz are best This is prolly gonna sound super villany but here goes I believe that science is the only truth that can be verified. morality is not objective it's not solid it's not fact neither is religion or anything else science is the only truth that is universal and that morality is what is going to destroy us not science. Progress is the only thing that matters the progress of humanity if we let morality get in the way of progress it will lead to self destruction and the main flaw with the argument of the villain clinging to alchemy is that his plan for the most part worked if he had been less moral and let hoenhime die in that old city he would have won he had God bound to his will for a short time. so why choose to be moral in a world where moral people deal with nothing but hardships and suffering with the rare occasion of happiness and immoral people become immortal and all powerful June 13, 2019 Reply NitroDS ARTZ what the fuck is scientism, that's a word religious nutjobs use. June 23, 2019 Reply Jason Wolfe Science is simply a method of observation and experimentation to determine how and why the universe works how it does. Doubting 'science' in this sense is to reject the idea that anything can ever be known for certain. THAT is what a religion or a cult does. As far as I can see, there's three possible ways to perceive the objective universe.1. Through the lens of rational deduction backed up by repeatable experiments, while having faith that all things are knowable.2. Use method 1, but reserve judgement on the bits that aren't yet known. Never taking any explanation, natural or otherwise, off the table until a definitive answer is shown.3. Utterly reject the notion of science and things being knowable. Have faith that everything happens for reasons beyond your understanding and will work out for the best whether you know about them or not.I think a quote from Aron Ra best summarized my view on people who take the latter road. "Phrases like 'professing to be wise they became fools' is a useful sentiment if you're a fool and doomed to stay that way." While inexcusable and still resulting in a net loss in every way, those nazi doctors learned about the human body and used that research to benefit others. When religion goes extreme, say, a crusade or terrorism, there is only loss. Nothing is gained by killing people because of some holy land or because they worship the wrong God. There is only death and destruction under religious rule July 3, 2019 Reply Abrar Faiyaz If father discarded greed, then why was he greedy for power? July 3, 2019 Reply Redrield One of the things that rubbed me the wrong way near the end of the series is the fact that being forced to open the Gate of Truth results in Mustang losing his sight. In the other instances of characters opening the gate, I feel as though the price they have to pay is a result of their arrogance in assuming that humans can be created through equivalent exchange. In Mustang's case, there wasn't that arrogance. Despite threats by the homunculi, he refused to open the gate. I've seen it justified as Truth taking his sight for looking to the future, however I don't see why wishful thinking or hoping to improve the lives of people is on the same level as the arrogance of trying to create your own. July 11, 2019 Reply Muel 1989 I'm not personally familiar with Paul Feyerabend's work, so I'm basing this solely on the explanation provided here, but as described I feel like the critique involving Copernicus seems more like a critique of the behaviour of individual scientists, as opposed to a legitimate critique of the scientific method. Having an immovable faith in the CURRENT scientific consensus is no different to religious faith, but approaching the world through the scientific method means that you are willing to update your worldview as new, more comprehensive theories emerge. Copernicus was closer to the truth than Aristotle or Ptolemy, but was in turn supplanted by the understanding brought by Newton's laws, which were themselves supplanted by Einstein's relativity. The scientific method allows us to continually refine our understanding, but any current state of that understanding shouldn't be taken as any sort of absolute truth, merely our species' best (educated) guess… for the time being. I agree though that science can't be seen as the sole arbiter of truth, though – science can't and doesn't make any ethical claims. That is the realm of ethical philosophy and is beyond the reach of science. Science can bring us closer to physical truths about the universe, but how we interpret and apply those truths is outside of its realm. The importance of science shouldn't be downplayed, but equally its value and its role need to be underastood and contextualised. You have to use the energy of the stone, a stone powered by hundreds of humans, during whatever exchange you are making and even then the power of the stone is not limitless since it can be depleted. Equivalent exchange is still maintained no matter what it works similar to the first law of thermodynamics, ie energy can neither be created nor destroyed; energy can only be transferred or changed from one form to another. July 18, 2019 Reply Brian Jr Spero 22:22 Yes. I am a Catholic. But I believe in science too. I always try to speculate reasons for both. For example PERHAPS God created the Dinosaurs and Cave man first and saw that it was not good…BOOM asteroid and he creates new matter and Big Bang THEN in a second draft so to speak God created the matter that caused the big bang NOW then the whole 6 days of formation and humans and…Point is why not let science ANF God be the reason for the universe's creation. Trying to match unethical decisions of people around me with rational solution that may propel everyone around me forward, if not by opportunity, then at least in morality and good faith for our surroundings. Now, of course I am not an anime character, and my ethics and interests aren't pure. But believing whole heartedly you are correct doesn't mean you are, yet not believing it strongly enough can be insufficient to convince someone who's strayed from what they believe is true. How do you balance conviction and certainty with questioning that very conviction, allowing room to grow and improve and learn? The scientific method is a framework for explaining phenomenon in our world. People with personal/political/hubris will preserve particular ideas (geocentricism). It's just a TOOL to achieve a desired goal, if your goals are selfish, yes, science will be bad, but if used for a good purpose it will make good for human beings. Even father in the end just said his intentions were merely selfish, and his selfish ends were what caused him to do what he have done. This video spreads a real misconception of what science is set out to be, science NEVER caused anything amoral because IT'S NOT a moral system, it CAN BE USED in order to achieve a bad outcome. August 15, 2019 Reply Lord Baktor In my opinion, the Scientific Method should be viewed as a very useful tool assisting in the search for truth, not as truth in itself or as a substitute for morals/ethics. The world needs more philosophers. August 15, 2019 Reply Satoru Kuroshiro See now, I've actually been mistaken for a follower of scientism by people because I have a lot of skepticism for religion and I tend to criticise people who deny scientific fact and highly evidenced theory, but I still hold the idea that there should be morals in science to keep us from committing atrocities through science, and I also feel that there should be that separation between state and science because we have seen the effects of not having that barrier through things like chlorine gas and the nuclear bomb. Most of my skepticism with religion comes from the fact that most of the people I've met put an over-reliance in faith, believing that keeping that faith will guarantee a good life, which my very life has been contrary to as someone who grew up religious but had only experienced hardship in recent years, as well as the fact that many of those people also refuse to see where contradictions are found between their faith and the findings of science and other mediums of thought. I actually follow Buddhism because of this, as it is the religion with the most evidence supported within science and other mediums of thought, and there is also the fact that many people I know have actually been taught an incorrect telling of history by their Churches to try and cover up the dark history it has had such as the crusades and the persecution of pagans (which resulted in modern Christmas due to Yule being the one day that Christians wouldn't persecute pagans for a variety of reasons). The idea of reincarnation alone is supported by the fact that, if we consider the human soul as energy, and therefore because energy cannot be destroyed or created, then the logical conclusion is that our soul transfers from one being to another as we die and are reborn. August 17, 2019 Reply Crimson Tiger What is God? A divine being. Always been there and will always be there. The creator of all and the destroyer of all. Can not be created or destroyed. The source of all life and existence. What is science with out doubt and what is religion with out faith? In my opinion, you can not have one with out the other. Religion can create radicals that kill their fellow man. It can also bring us together in peace.Science can create weapons to destroy ourselves. It can also find cures for diseases. August 21, 2019 Reply iTz Olie It’s my belief that we need science to understand the world we live in.
