Green Bay Police Department Lends Habitat for Humanity a Hand

KEEPING IT LOCAL TONIGHT… ((ERIN)) IT WAS ALL HANDS ON DECK AT A HABITAT FOR HUMANITY BUILD IN GREEN BAY TODAY- EVEN FOR OUR MEN AND WOMEN IN BLUE. ((TOM)) LOCAL FIVE’S ERINN TAYLOR BRINGS US TO THE BUILD SITE. NATS HAMMER IT’S A WORK IN PROGRESS… LT. STEVE MAHONEY – GREEN BAY POLICE DEPT. A HOUSE IS BEING BUILT FOR A VERY DESERVING FAMILY IN THE GREEN BAY COMMUNITY. JUST GETTING UNDERWAY. LT. MAHONEY WE’RE PUTTING IN THE I-JOIST AND EVENTUALLY THE SUBFLOORING SO THE REST OF THE HOUSE CAN PRETTY MUCH START GETTING BUILT. THIS ISN’T THE FIRST TIME THE GREEN BAY POLICE DEPARTMENT HAS LENT A HAND TO HABITAT… LT. MAHONEY WE’VE DONE SIDING ON A HOUSE, WE’VE ALSO DONE DRYWALL IN THE BASEMENT OF A HOUSE. BUT THIS IS THE FIRST TIME THEY’VE BEEN RESPONSIBLE FOR LAYING THE GROUNDWORK FOR THE REST OF THE BUILD.. LT. MAHONEY YOU DON’T WANT TO MESS UP BECAUSE IF YOU MESS UP WITH THIS, IT MIGHT CAUSE ISSUES LATER ON. IT’S A PRETTY INTIMIDATING TASK…ESPECIALLY SINCE THIS ISN’T WORK THESE OFFICERS ARE USED TO. LT. MAHONEY A COUPLE OF OUR OFFICERS USED TO BE ROOFERS BUT OBVIOUSLY WE DON’T NEED THAT EXPERIENCE TODAY. OTHER THAN THAT WE’RE ALL EXTREMELY NOVICE. LUCKILY THEY’VE GOT SOME EXPERIENCED TEACHERS ON HAND.. LT. MAHONEY THE CONTRACTORS FROM HABITAT FOR HUMANITY ARE VERY NICE, THEY’RE VERY PATIENT, TEACHING US COPS HOW TO DO CARPENTRY WORK IS QUITE THE CHALLENGE FOR THEM. ONCE WE FIGURED OUT WHAT THEY WERE ASKING IT KIND OF SMOOTHED OUT FOR US. THEY’VE GOT THEIR PART OF THE JOB FIGURED OUT… LT. MAHONEY I FIND THIS ALMOST MORE REWARDING BECAUSE IT’S TOTALLY OUTSIDE ANY OF OUR NORMS DOING THIS. IT IS NICE TO SEE WHAT STARTS THE PROCESS OF A HOUSE BEING BUILT. THEY’RE STARTING THE PROCESS THAT OTHER VOLUNTEER GROUPS WILL WORK TO COMPLETE. LT. MAHONEY SO WE’RE JUST OUT HERE DOING OUR PART TO HELP. IT’S JUST A GREAT COMMUNITY EFFORT TO MAKE THE CITY OF GREEN BAY A BETTER PLACE. SETTING UP A FOUNDATION — THAT A FAMILY WILL SOON CALL HOME. IN GREEN BAY ET LOCAL FIVE NEWS. ((TOM)) THE HOME IS EXPECTED TO BE COMPLETED IN THREE TO FOUR MONTHS. ((ERIN)) RYAN RODIG’S IN NOW WITH A PREVIEW OF SPORTS… ((RYAN)) EZEKIAL ELLIOTT AND THE COWBOYS COME TOGETHER ON A RECORD
